The owners of this mission revival home were completely committed to the history of the home and wanted a kitchen to match the rest of the untouched rooms. Overall the scope of work included the kitchen, powder room, laundry room, wine cellar, master and guest bathrooms.

 

The original historic details of the home were charming and the location above the golf course was stunning, but the kitchen was dark.  It was on the north side of the house, with only one window.  

We opened up the whole space by removing a staircase and lowering a floor at the back of the house. The owners sourced period tile, and even a heavy oak table from Belgium. Mahogany cabinets were used and a Miele fridge was hidden behind cabinet panels.

 

The architect had speced a fabricated spiral staircase to the wine cellar, but we found an antique cast iron one similar to the stairs on Alcatraz. We then created a hidden cabinet door that swiveled out of the way to reveal the round stairwell.  This feature is the hit of all that tour the home.

 

A similar approach was used on two bathrooms upstairs.  One with a barrel-vault ceiling and copper soaking tub.
